Discovering Novelist Rand: Where to Start and What to Expect
Today, I want to share a little journey I had with the novelist Rand. You know, sometimes you just stumble upon things that really change your perspective. That’s what happened to me recently when I started digging into Ayn Rand’s works and her philosophy called Objectivism.
I first picked up “Atlas Shrugged” because I’d heard so much about it. It is a thick book, and honestly, it took me a while to get into it. I’m not an architect, but I could totally relate to the idea of sticking to your guns, no matter what others say. It made me think a lot about my own work and how important it is to believe in what you’re doing.
Next, I decided to try and understand where Rand was coming from. So I dove into her earlier stuff, like “We the Living”. This book is set in post-revolutionary Russia, and it’s a pretty harsh critique of communism. It gave me a lot of insights into why she valued individualism so much. It’s tough to read at times, but it really helped me see the bigger picture of her ideas.
I also explored some of her short stories and plays. They’re not as famous as her novels, but they’re just as interesting. It was like watching her develop as a writer and seeing how she honed her ideas over time. She wrote about strong characters who were all about reason and achieving their own happiness. That just resonated so much with me.

I also read some articles and watched some videos about her life. She was born in Russia, you know, and her early experiences really shaped her views. Knowing that made it much easier to get where she was coming from.
By the end of it, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on Objectivism. It’s all about being rational, pursuing your own happiness, and being productive. It’s not just about selfishness; it’s about living a purposeful life and achieving your own goals.
