Must-Know Medieval Tools! See What Tools Were Used Back in the Day!
I’ve been messing around with some old tools from the Middle Ages. I’m talking about stuff from way back, like the stuff you see in museums or read about in history books.
I started by looking at what they used back then. You know, simple things. I mean, these folks didn’t have fancy machines. They used mostly iron and wood for their tools. And guess what? If something broke, they just fixed it on the spot.
Then I got into their weapons. They had spears, swords, axes, and bows and arrows. Pretty basic, right? But effective. I tried to imagine a battle with just these—no guns or anything! They also used these things called bellows. These were a big deal for working with metal, made things a lot safer and easier. So, I built a small fire pit in my backyard—don’t worry, it was all safe—and used a homemade bellow to see how it worked. It was pretty cool to see how much air you could pump into a fire with such a simple device.
- Wooden bowls, wooden cups, wooden spoons.
- Iron pots, knives.
I also checked out their everyday items. I mean, most people just used wooden bowls, cups, and spoons. Can you believe it? And iron pots for cooking. The rich folks, they might have had some glass stuff, but most people? Nope. Just wood and iron. I even tried eating with just a wooden spoon and bowl for a day. It felt weird but also kind of cool, like I was connecting with the past.
And farming! They had these shovels and spades, all made of wood. I made a simple wooden spade myself, just to see how it felt. Let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it looks. These people were tough! And they had this cool way of rotating crops, like using three fields instead of just one. I tried to apply it in my small garden, it’s harder than you think!
Final Thoughts
After spending some time with these medieval tools, I have so much respect for the people from back then. They were so creative and resourceful. They made the most out of what they had, and they built some amazing things. Their buildings, their farming, even their simple tools—it’s all pretty impressive. It’s been a fun little adventure, going back in time like this.
