Phases of Moon Art: How to Create Your Own!
Okay, so I wanted to make some moon art the other day, and I thought it would be cool to show the different phases of the moon. I’m no artist, but I figured I could handle this. Here’s how it went down.
Gathering My Stuff
First, I grabbed some black paper. I figured that would be perfect for the night sky vibe. Then I needed something to make the moon shapes. I thought about using paint, but that sounded messy. I rummaged through my craft supplies and found some old glitter glue – score! I also grabbed a pencil and a few round things from around the house to trace, like a cup and a small plate. You know, to get those circles right.
Making the Moons
I started by lightly tracing circles on the black paper with the pencil. I made sure to leave some space between each one to show the different phases. I looked up a picture of moon phases online because, let’s be real, I couldn’t remember the exact order. I arranged some circles for this plan.
- New Moon: This one was easy, just a black space.
- Waxing Crescent: I used the glitter glue to make a thin crescent shape on the right side of one of the circles.
- First Quarter: For this one, I filled in the right half of another circle with the glitter glue.
- Waxing Gibbous: This was a bit trickier. I filled in most of the circle, leaving a small crescent shape on the left side empty.
- Full Moon: Easy peasy, just filled in the whole circle with glitter glue.
- Waning Gibbous: Same as the waxing gibbous, but flipped – I left a crescent shape empty on the right side this time.
- Third Quarter: Filled in the left half of a circle.
- Waning Crescent: Made a thin crescent shape on the left side of a circle.
Sparkly Moon Magic
Once I had all my moon shapes outlined and filled in with the glitter glue, I let it dry. It took a while, so I went and watched some videos while waiting. When it was finally dry, my moon phases art looked pretty cool! The glitter glue gave it a sparkly, kind of magical look, just like the real moon in the night sky.
It is not a masterpiece, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. This is a fun and easy project, even if you are not super artistic. Plus, I learned a bit more about the moon phases, which is always a good thing. Give it a try sometime, I bet you will surprise yourself!
