Wildlife Graffiti Artists: Meet the Rebels Behind the Murals!
Today, let me tell you about how I brought some “wildlife graffiti” to life, just like that artist Sarah Yates, who goes by Faunagraphic.
It all started with this blank wall near my place. I was really boring, so I thought, “Why not spice it up a bit?” I’ve always been into street art and nature, so I figured I’d combine the two.
Brainstorming Ideas
First, I spent a few days just observing the local wildlife. We’ve got tons of birds around here – robins, sparrows, the occasional blue jay. And of course, squirrels. Lots and lots of squirrels. I scribbled down some sketches in my notebook, trying to capture their vibe.
- I wanted to make it colorful, but not too crazy.
- I decided to go for a more realistic style, rather than cartoonish.
Gathering Supplies
Next, I hit the art supply store. I grabbed a bunch of spray paint in different colors, some stencils (just in case), and a few different-sized brushes for the details. Oh, and a ladder, can’t forget that! Safety first, you know?
Prepping the Wall
Before I could start painting, I had to prep the wall. It was a bit grimy, so I gave it a good scrub down with soap and water. Then I waited for it to dry completely. I also laid down some drop cloths to protect the ground. No use in making a mess, right?
Painting Process
Finally, the fun part! I started by sketching out the basic shapes with some light-colored spray paint. Then I gradually added more layers and details, using different colors and stencils to create some texture.
- I painted a big, majestic hawk on one part of the wall.
- Then I added some playful squirrels chasing each other around a tree branch.
- I even threw in a few hidden ladybugs and butterflies for people to discover.
The Big Reveal
It took me a few days, working on and off, but I finally finished it! And I gotta say, it turned out pretty awesome. The wall is so much more interesting now, and it really brightens up the neighborhood. People stop by all the time to check it out, and the kids love it. It makes me really happy.
It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I encourage everybody to try this activity and make the world more colorful.
