So, I’ve always been a sucker for travel, you know? Seeing new places, experiencing different cultures, all that good stuff. Recently, I got it into my head that I needed to see the 7 Wonders of the Philippines. I’d heard so much about them, seen pictures, the usual. But nothing beats seeing things in person, right?
First, I did a bunch of digging online. Where are these places? How do I get there? What’s the best time to go? You know, the usual travel stuff. There’s a lot of info out there, but it’s all scattered around. It took some time, but I finally figured out a basic plan. I decided to start with the Banaue Rice Terraces ’cause they seemed like the most challenging to get to.
Getting to Banaue was a whole adventure in itself. I took a bus from Manila, which took like, forever. The roads were winding, and the scenery was amazing, but man, was I glad to finally get there. I checked into a little guesthouse, nothing fancy, but it had a killer view of the terraces.
- Banaue Rice Terraces: These were seriously breathtaking. I hired a local guide to take me around, and he told me all about the history and how they were made. I even tried planting rice, which was way harder than it looks!
- Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park: Next up, I flew down to Palawan to see Tubbataha. I’m not a diver, but I snorkeled, and it was like being in a whole other world. So many colorful fish and coral! I also did some island hopping from the main island.
- Underground River: This place is super popular, so I booked a tour in advance. The cave is huge, and the boat ride through it was really cool. It felt a bit crowded but the stalactites and stalagmites are out of this world.
- Chocolate Hills: I flew to Bohol, and rented a motorbike to get around. Seeing the Chocolate Hills was a bit surreal. They look so uniform, like giant Hershey’s Kisses! I rode around for hours through the countryside.
- Mayon Volcano: This volcano is just picture-perfect. I stayed in Legazpi City and got some amazing views of it from my hotel. I also visited the Cagsawa Ruins, which is a really cool historical site.
- Vigan City: I took another bus to get to Vigan. It’s like stepping back in time. The old Spanish architecture is so well-preserved. I walked around the cobblestone streets, ate some local food, and just soaked it all in.
- Hundred Islands: This is the last one. From Vigan, I made my way to Hundred Islands. It is quite a fun experience, jumping from one small island to another. I tried some fresh seafood there. I also tried kayaking and paddle boarding.
Honestly, the whole trip was a whirlwind. I met so many interesting people, tried tons of new food, and saw some of the most incredible sights. It was exhausting, but so worth it. If you’re thinking about doing something like this, just go for it! You won’t regret it. It is not just about ticking off a checklist. It is about immersing yourself in a new environment and experiencing the unexpected.
It wasn’t always smooth sailing, though. There were definitely some hiccups along the way. Like the time I almost missed my flight, or the time I got completely lost trying to find a waterfall. But hey, that’s all part of the adventure, right?
And you know what? Even with all the planning, there were still surprises. Like stumbling upon a hidden beach, or finding a tiny restaurant with the best food ever. Those are the moments that really stick with you, you know?
So yeah, that’s my story. Just a regular guy, trying to see some cool stuff. No fancy travel agent, no five-star hotels. Just a backpack, a sense of adventure, and a whole lot of curiosity. Hope this inspires someone else to get out there and explore!
